Mo te tūranga | About the Role

You're probably the kind of person who loves getting stuck into complex data problems and finding creative solutions. As a Lead Data Engineer, you'll be responsible for designing and developing data pipelines and models that drive our business forward. You'll be working on exciting projects that make a real difference for our customers and for Aotearoa.

You'll be leading the charge in automating, simplifying, and standardising our data processes, and sharing your expertise with our people to help them get the most out of our data tech. You'll also be developing and delivering training on data technology, tools, and methods to the business, and actively leading the management of relationships with key stakeholders to ensure that our solutions meet their needs.

As a seasoned data engineering expert, here's what you bring to the table:

• Extensive experience in database design, data curation, and data wrangling ability from a variety of structured or unstructured sources - you're a master at taming even the most unruly data.

• 10 years experience in data integration design and development, CI/CD, and/or data warehousing processes - you've got the scars to prove it, and we're impressed.

• Advanced skill with SQL and Python including optimisation and productionisation of code - you're a coding ninja who can whip up solutions in no time.

• Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to manage relationships, educate, influence, and support individuals across multiple experience levels in both technical and non-technical language - you're a people person who can talk tech with the best of them.

• Advanced understanding of data structures, file manipulation, data architecture, and software design principles - you're a data genius who knows your stuff inside out.

• Extensive experience in large scale, complex data warehouse or Big Data environments, and data systems management - you've been around the block a few times and can handle whatever we throw at you.

• Significant experience with one or more of the following technologies: cloud native data platforms, real-time/event-driven data streaming, containerisation, MLOps, CI/CD - you're a tech-savvy data engineer who stays ahead of the curve.

• Proven experience in considering the security, governance, risk, and commercial implications of relevant solutions - you're a thoughtful and responsible data leader who thinks about the bigger picture.
