Our head office in Auckland is a modern, functional space overlooking the Viaduct, and just a 5 minute walk from Britomart's central transport hub. We've also got access to co-working spaces across New Zealand and Australia, to cater to some of our team and clients in different regions.

The role

We are seeking highly experienced Senior Software Engineers on a contractual basis to contribute to the transformation of a modern data platform with our client. You will collaborate closely with stakeholders to design and implement scalable, distributed data solutions using Java and SQL.

We are looking for engineers with strong software engineering experience, a data-focused mindset, and the ability to work across modern data tools and frameworks. Familiarity with technologies such as Python, CDC tools, Apache Iceberg, Apache Druid, ClickHouse, Spark, Flink, Kubernetes, and Go is highly desirable.

This role requires individuals who thrive in ambiguity, enjoy building solutions from the ground up, and can take ownership of the end-to-end delivery of data pipelines and platform solutions. Immediate availability and Auckland-based candidates are preferred.

We are ideally looking at individuals with immediate availability, and based in New Zealand.

The experience we're looking for :

• Strong hands-on experience with Java and SQL – essential for designing, building, and optimizing data pipelines.
• Python experience is a plus.
• 5–7+ years of experience in data engineering and platform development.
• Experience with distributed processing frameworks such as Spark or Flink is highly beneficial.
• Exposure to modern data tools and architectures, including CDC technologies, Apache Iceberg, Apache Druid, and ClickHouse.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes and modern cloud-based data platforms (AWS experience advantageous).
• Experience designing and managing scalable, distributed data platforms.
• Familiarity with machine learning or AI data workflows is a plus.
• A proactive and experimental mindset to operate in evolving systems and ambiguous problem

spaces.

What you'll be doing :

• Lead technical design and architecture for modern data platform transformation initiatives.
• Build scalable, distributed data pipelines using Java, SQL, and optionally Python, alongside modern processing frameworks.
• Integrate CDC tools, Apache Iceberg, Apache Druid, and ClickHouse into robust data platforms.
• Construct POCs to validate proposed architectures and solutions.
• Mentor and guide technical leads and developers to embed best practices in data engineering.
• Oversee data migrations and platform development cycles from design through production.
