About the Role:

Our client, a key public sector organisation, is seeking an experienced GIS Specialist to join their team and play a pivotal role in managing, analysing, and visualising spatial data that informs critical community, infrastructure, and environmental projects.

This is a hands-on role that combines GIS data management, spatial analysis, system administration, and stakeholder engagement to ensure accurate, accessible, and actionable geospatial information. You will work across multiple departments, providing expertise to support decision-making, planning, and reporting initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, update, and manage GIS databases and spatial datasets to ensure data integrity and accessibility.
  • Perform spatial analysis to support operational planning, environmental assessments, and infrastructure projects.
  • Develop high-quality maps, dashboards, and visualisations to communicate insights to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to integrate GIS data into workflows and operational systems.
  • Implement and enforce GIS standards, metadata practices, and data governance policies.
  • Provide technical support, training, and guidance to staff in using GIS tools and technologies.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and implementation of new GIS technologies and system enhancements.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Proven experience using GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of spatial data management, projections, coordinate systems, and cartography principles.
  • Experience with scripting and automation using Python, SQL, or other relevant languages.
  • Ability to analyse complex datasets and produce clear, actionable outputs.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience in a public sector or large organisational environment is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of geospatial data standards, open data principles, and cloud GIS platforms is a plus.
