Part-Time Mechanical Drafter & 3D Modeller – Christchurch (with potential to move full-time)

About Us

Beattie Air is Christchurch's Most Trusted air-conditioning company, with over 35 years of experience delivering high-quality residential and commercial mechanical HVAC systems across Canterbury.

We're expanding our in-house capability and looking for a Mechanical Drafter & 3D Modeller to join our growing design team. This is a part-time position with genuine potential to move into a full-time role as our project workload continues to increase.


About the Role

You'll work alongside our in-house mechanical and seismic engineers and project delivery teams to produce detailed 3D models, coordination drawings, and documentation for both residential and commercial projects.

Your work will play a key role in ensuring our systems are accurate, buildable, and compliant before installation begins.

Key responsibilities:

  • Produce detailed mechanical drawings and coordination models.
  • Perform clash detection to identify and resolve issues between building services.
  • Create and update as-built documentation based on site verification.
  • Use Bluebeam and other drafting software for mark-ups, coordination, and design reviews.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and installers to ensure design accuracy.
  • Support our in-house seismic engineer with coordination and model integration work.
  • Work across a wide variety of project types, sizes, and clients, from bespoke residential systems to complex commercial installations.

Skills & Experience

We're looking for a technically capable drafter with strong coordination skills and attention to detail.

  • Experience in mechanical drafting/modelling (HVAC, refrigeration and plumbing).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Revizto, or similar drafting/modelling software.
  • Strong capability in Bluebeam for as-builts, mark-ups, and documentation.
  • Understanding of clash detection workflows and multi-disciplinary coordination.
  • Excellent communication and self-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with others.
