Wellington City Council serves the residents and businesses of Pōneke, and the Parking Services team play an important part by supporting Wellington City Council's long-term plan and vision around transport.

As a Parking Officer, you will promote compliance with city parking regulations and manage the turnover of parking space, while easing the safe movement of people and goods within Pōneke City.

Our Parking Officers connect with the public on a regular basis and spend most of their time outdoors in and around the city. On any given day you can cover up to 20km of city streets and parking areas.

For your first two weeks on the job, you will be in full-time training between 8.00am and 5.00pm. Following this, you will move onto our rotating roster with start times ranging from 7.00am, 9.30am, and 11.00am. Our rosters include weekend shifts.

In this dynamic job you will:

  • be the "face" of Wellington City Council
  • use your customer service skills to promote positive public relations
  • help to keep Pōneke moving
  • actively issue infringements to non-compliant vehicles using technology
  • ensure your assigned area is monitored effectively
  • work in a wider team who are supportive

We're looking for someone who has:

  • good physical fitness with the ability to walk long distances (up to 20km a day), rain, hail or shine
  • natural ability to build rapport with customers
  • able to use, learn and adapt to modern communication technologies
  • good problem-solving skills and written and numeracy skills
  • ability to work without direct supervision team orientation
  • wear a uniform with pride

The starting hourly rate for this role is $29.94 per hour.
