Our Data Risk tīma (team) sits within the Digital, Data and Analytics division. This is a tīma of diverse skills, who share a common passion for data and information. As Data Quality and Controls Manager, you are one of our data risk SMEs providing advice to the business. You ensure the safe and appropriate use of data across BNZ, and with external parties. This new role is an excellent opportunity for someone who has a strong background in risk management, particularly with expertise in control design, technology risk, data governance, or third-party risk.

We sat down with our Head of Data Risk (Who you'll report to) and they told us the following about the role:
This role is based in Auckland and is a hybrid role with three days in the office and two days where you can work flexibly.
What are 5 day to day tasks the person in this role will complete?
- Provide advice regarding data risk control requirements and support control design and delivery.
- Develop and monitor data risk indicators to provide assurance and feedback to stakeholders.
- Support stakeholders with understanding and executing data quality and data management uplift activities, and their management of data issues.
- Design and maintain enterprise artefacts pertaining to data management risk, and data quality.
- Support the management of information and data risk obligations, including execution and monitoring over relevant controls.

What projects / work will the candidate be working on now and into the next year?
This new role will focus on the measurement and management of data risk arising from sharing data with third parties, or receipt of data from third parties. You will have the opportunity to design and deliver new controls and enhance business processes.
What is the most challenging thing about this opportunity?
Your work sits in the middle of a Venn diagram of overlapping specialisations. There is constant collaboration with other SME teams, including technology, risk and sourcing. You need to build an understanding of those areas to ensure we have designed the most effective and efficient way of managing this risk together.
What skills are required for this role?
- 4 + years of risk management experience, ideally in data governance, data risk, or control design.
- Very strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Experience with advanced Excel functions.
- Excellent communication, both written and verbal, with experience communicating with a range of stakeholders, both technical and non-technical.
- A self-starter, who can work independently but also contributes to our positive team culture.
- Understanding of financial services information related regulations such as APRA CPG235, APRA CPS234, and the NZ Privacy Act.
