Contract: Permanent, Part Time (0.5 FTE / 20 hours per week)

About the Role
The Local Mortality Review Group Coordinator plays a vital role in strengthening the safety and wellbeing of pēpi, tamariki and rangatahi across our region. You will lead a local child and youth quality assurance programme dedicated to reducing inequities and preventing avoidable morbidity and mortality.
In this role, you'll facilitate multi-agency mortality reviews and translate insights into meaningful, system-level recommendations that drive real change for children and young people aged 28 days to 24 years.
With a strong focus on responsive action, your work will help shape and inform quality improvement initiatives across health, disability, social and community services - contributing to better outcomes for whānau in our localities and supporting improvements across Aotearoa New Zealand.
About the Team/Service Location
You'll be part of a committed, interprofessional team that brings together specialist services to support safe, coordinated, and high-quality care for tamariki, rangatahi, whānau, and adults. Our team includes experts in Gateway assessments for tamariki involved with Oranga Tamariki, specialist clinical assessment, local child and youth mortality review, and dedicated hospital'Oranga Tamariki liaison. We also have coordinators who provide leadership across safeguarding, child protection, and support for vulnerable adults. Working collaboratively across health and social sectors, we strengthen pathways, share expertise, and promote coordinated, culturally grounded practice.
The service:
- Coordinates activities and initiatives that strengthen our workforce's ability to respond to all forms of family violence.
- Provides education, structure, and resources to support effective violence intervention across the health sector.
- Maintains strong referral pathways with community partners.
- Delivers specialist services, including the Gateway Assessment Service, Child Protection Clinic, Local Mortality Review Group, and Oranga Tamariki Hospital Liaison Practice Lead.
About you
- A tertiary qualification and/or significant work experience in a related field
- Demonstrated system thinker and good understanding of current NZ health sector
- Knowledge and experience of applying quality improvement methods to complex system environments
- Expert facilitation and change management
- Demonstrated experience of working in partnership with Māori
