Fixed-Term, Full-Time – 44 Weeks per Year
Rutherford College is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Attendance Case Manager to join our pastoral team. This is a vital role focused on improving student attendance and engagement through proactive relationship building, early intervention, and strong collaboration with whānau and external agencies.
The Attendance Case Manager will work closely with students who are chronically absent or at risk of disengagement, helping them re-establish positive routines and connections to learning. The role includes monitoring attendance data, conducting home visits and whānau hui, and implementing individual attendance plans to remove barriers preventing students from attending school.
This position reports to the Deputy Principal (Pastoral/Attendance) and will work as part of the wider attendance and wellbeing team. You'll be supported with access to a school vehicle for home visits and the technology needed to perform the role effectively.
We're Looking For Someone Who:
- Builds strong, trusting relationships with young people and whānau.
- Demonstrates empathy, resilience, and cultural responsiveness.
- Is highly organised, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Has excellent communication and record-keeping skills.
- Brings experience in youth work, social work, education, or a related field.
- Holds a full, clean NZ driver's licence and meets the requirements of the Children's Act 2014.
In This Role You Will:
- Monitor and track attendance data in collaboration with the Attendance Officer and SLT.
- Identify patterns of non-attendance and intervene early.
- Conduct home visits and whānau meetings to support re-engagement.
- Develop and monitor individual attendance improvement plans.
- Liaise with external agencies such as Attendance West and social service providers.
- Promote and support the school's STAR values through all engagement.
If you're passionate about making a difference for young people and enjoy working in a role where relationship-building and practical problem-solving are key, we'd love to hear from you.
This position commences 29 January 2026 and concludes 10 December 2027. There is a possibility the role will continue into 2028 but this is dependent on the school sourcing appropriate funding.
The hours are 37.5 hours per week including 1 week of each school holiday period. There is the ability to work flexible hours within the 37.5 hours or the school will consider less hours for the right candidate e.g. to work in with applicants who have school-age children. This position offers a school phone and access to a school vehicle for home visits.
You must apply for this position via our website.
Applications close 25 November at 3pm. Applicants must reside in or have the rights to work in New Zealand to apply for this role.
