Hamilton West, New Zealand Propel Funeral Partners NZ Full time

General Manager – Funeral Home

About Us

Seddon Park Funeral Home has been serving the Waikato community for decades, providing professional, compassionate care to families during life's most challenging moments. We offer a full range of funeral options – from traditional services to contemporary and eco-conscious choices – ensuring every family feels supported and respected.

About the Role

As the General Manager, you will lead the operational, strategic and cultural direction of Seddon Park Funeral Home. Your focus will be on delivering exceptional service with empathy and integrity, supporting a dedicated team, and driving continuous improvement across all aspects of the business.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide strong leadership and support to our team of funeral directors, support staff and service providers, fostering a positive, values‑driven culture.
  • Oversee daily operations across both branches, ensuring consistent, high‑quality service delivery and adherence to industry standards and regulations.
  • Lead business planning, budgeting, performance monitoring and reporting to ensure financial sustainability and growth.
  • Uphold our commitment to offering options (traditional, eco‑friendly, direct cremation/burial) and guide families through those choices with respect and clarity.
  • Build and maintain relationships with families, community groups, referral partners and industry stakeholders; represent the brand locally.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety, legal and industry‑association (Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand) standards.
  • Drive process improvements, service innovation and operational efficiencies while maintaining the warmth and compassion that define our brand.
  • Manage and coordinate funeral service activities and participate in on-call

About You

You are a leader who brings both business acumen and genuine care for people. You will:

  • Have proven experience in a senior leadership or general management role — ideally in service‑oriented, people‑focused environments. Previous funeral‑industry experience is essential.
  • Possess excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills; you're confident working with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate emotional intelligence, composure and compassion when working with families during challenging moments.
  • Understand operational, regulatory and compliance requirements in a sensitive service sector.
  • Be proactive, strategically minded and capable of driving change while protecting the values and trusted reputation of the organisation.
  • Be comfortable leading across multiple sites (New Lynn & Albany) and representing the business publicly in the community.

What We Offer

  • A leadership role that makes a meaningful impact in the Waikato community.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • A culture rooted in compassion, respect, and professionalism.
  • Opportunity to lead and shape the future of a well‑regarded funeral home with scope for innovation and growth
  • Being part of the wider Propel Funeral Partners (PFP) Group, offering a supportive network with industry experience
