Are you ready to help shape the future of electricity in Aotearoa? Mercury is seeking a Project Engineer - Electrical to lead and deliver electrical workstreams across our hydro and geothermal generation projects. This is a unique opportunity to work on some of New Zealand's oldest and most iconic energy assets—reviving and upgrading 70-year-old equipment, bringing legacy infrastructure into the future to meet the demands of a modern, sustainable energy system.

In this role, you'll work across all stages of the project lifecycle—from design and planning through to installation, commissioning, and close-out. You'll collaborate closely with Asset and Site Engineering teams, operational staff, and external partners to define scope, solve technical challenges, and ensure safe, high-quality outcomes. Your electrical engineering expertise and ability to engage across disciplines will be key to driving innovation and maintaining asset integrity.

We offer flexibility in our hours to accommodate your lifestyle, you can work from our office, one of our sites, or from home while still valuing the opportunities to work with your wider team to collaborate. This role can be based in Hamilton or Rotorua - close to our hydro and geothermal sites.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Lead project electrical engineering workstreams and provide technical to achieve the generation project goals – Generate power safely and reliably.
  • Drive implementation of electrical systems across multiple concurrent projects, ensuring timelines and quality standards are met.
  • Actively participate and collaborate with the wider Mercury team to gain alignment to projects goals.
  • Safeguard the technical integrity of assets by proactively identifying and addressing asset risk through Projects.

  • Strong Electrical Engineering experience within the electrical industry
  • Has a strong electrical engineering background (ideally with hydro or geothermal experience)
  • Can lead technical discussions, evaluate challenges, and co-create solutions
  • Is confident working with certified personnel and managing engineering consultants
  • Understands safety in design and technical quality management
  • Thrives in a flexible, collaborative environment
