Animal Emergency Veterinarian — Companion Animals
16 hours ago
About the company
Step into a place where every patient matters, teamwork runs deep, and excellence is simply how things are done.
Our client is a leading New Zealand veterinary group dedicated to advanced companion-animal care. Their purpose is to raise the standard of veterinary medicine in Aotearoa — bringing together emergency, surgical, internal medicine, cardiology, radiology, physiotherapy and rehabilitation under one roof.
Each hospital is built around collaboration: GPs, emergency vets, nurses and specialists working side-by-side to deliver the best possible outcomes for pets and their people. It's a fast-paced, emotionally rewarding environment where learning never stops and every shift brings something new.
About the role
You'll join a high-performing, well-resourced team caring for small animals in a 24/7 emergency hospital setting.
Typical shifts follow a
4 on / 4 off roster
(two day shifts + two night shifts) averaging about
35 hours per week
. Overnight you'll work alongside skilled veterinary nurses and be part of a collaborative hospital network that includes surgery, medicine, imaging, and cardiology specialists.
You'll handle the full range of small-animal cases — from triage and stabilisation through to diagnostics, surgery, and follow-up — always with a focus on clear communication, gold-standard care, and empathy for clients under pressure.
About you
You're a veterinarian who loves problem-solving, teamwork, and seeing the tangible difference your work makes.
You might already have emergency experience, or you could be a capable GP ready for a new challenge.
You'll bring:
- A veterinary degree recognised by the
New Zealand Veterinary Council
(or eligibility for registration) - At least
2 years'
clinical experience with small animals - Confidence in decision-making and communicating clearly in urgent situations
- A collaborative, compassionate approach — the kind that keeps patients safe and teams strong
If you're motivated by learning, growth, and being part of something bigger, you'll thrive here.
Benefits
- Excellent pay
– $48 – $90 per hour (depending on experience) + $5 per hour night shift loading - Structured induction
and mentoring with clear clinical protocols - Daily access to specialists
and formal CPD pathways - Career progression
into senior emergency or specialist-aligned roles - Supportive culture
– kind, collaborative, and focused on doing right by every patient - Modern facilities
