Caretaker

Are you a highly skilled handy-person who takes immense pride in their work? We are seeking a dedicated, permanent, (40 hours) Caretaker to be the driving force behind our beautiful, safe, and functional learning environment.

Situated in Palmerston North, College Street Normal School, is a large, urban primary school with a culture of excellence. This role is perfect for an active, self-managing individual who enjoys variety and the satisfaction of ensuring our large, well-developed site is exceptional for our 600 students, staff, and visitors.

What You'll Be Doing:

You will report to the Resource Manager and work on-site, 8.00am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday - with a close down over the Christmas period (negotiated).

• Property Mastery: Perform a wide variety of building maintenance and repairs—from painting and gardening to minor plumbing and cleaning, pool upkeep and maintenance (training can be provided if necessary) - ensuring only specialised tasks are outsourced.
• Safety Champion: Lead the security of the premises and manage all compliance, including regular Health & Safety inspections (BWoF), to maintain a fully compliant and safe site.
• Facilities Management: Coordinate and oversee all external contractors and service providers (including contract cleaners), ensuring quality control.
• Essential Support: Assist with the successful setup and pack-down of all school events, supporting the positive culture of our community.

We Are Looking For a Master Multi-Tasker Who Has:

• Proven experience as a caretaker, handyperson, or in a similar facilities/maintenance role.
• Exceptional physical fitness and energy, capable of the regular manual tasks required.
• High levels of sound judgement, problem-solving, and the ability to self-manage competing demands.
• Proficiency with technology or the ability to quickly upskill in our Google for Education environment (Gmail, Calendar, Sheets) for administrative tasks.

Remuneration and Benefits:

• Competitive Pay: Remuneration is paid at the Caretakers, Cleaner, Canteen and Groundstaff Collective Agreement rates, commensurate with your skills, experience, and qualifications (ranging from $27 - $32 per hour, plus allowances)
