ATTENDANCE OFFICER POSITIONS – ARO AKE ATTENDANCE SERVICE.

Attendance Officers play a vital role in supporting schools and whānau to help students who are not attending or not enrolled in school to re-engage in education. They work closely with students, their families, and schools to create and monitor "back to school" plans that include the right supports to ensure success. As part of their day-to-day work, Attendance Officers conduct home visits to understand each student's situation, build relationships, and connect families with the support they need. They also work closely with schools in our cluster facilitating the development of a "back to school" plan that includes any support that may be required to ensure a successful return to school.

We're looking for people who:

  • Have experience working with young people and/or within their community.
  • Can build strong, respectful relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Are confident working independently, including conducting home visits.
  • Are digitally competent and well organised.
  • Bring energy, professionalism, and a strong work ethic to their mahi.
  • Meet the requirements of the Children's Act 2014 (police vetting required).
  • Hold a full, clean, and current NZ Driver Licence.

Applicants with any of the following skills, experience, or qualifications will be at an advantage:

  • A qualification in youth work, social work, or a related field
  • Relevant experience working with young people, whānau, or communities
  • The ability to speak te reo Māori and/or a Pacific language which would be a valued asset in this role.

These roles are employed by and based at Sylvia Park School, 3 Longford Street, Mt Wellington.

Terms and Conditions: Attendance Officers are employed under the Support Staff in School Collective Agreement. This contract is of a fixed term duration from 20 January 2026 – 17th December 2027.

Hours of work: 35 hours per week Monday – Friday: 8.30am – 4.00pm (includes a paid 25-minute morning tea break and an unpaid 30 minute lunch break). Four weeks annual leave provided to be allocated during the school holidays.

Salary: Starting salary for Attendance Officers is $67,576.60 per annum ($37.13 per hour).

Starting salary for Practice Leaders is $83,483.40 per annum ($45.87 per hour).
