The Company
For more than 70 years, our client has delivered innovative paper and cardboard recycling services to New Zealand businesses. They are now entering an exciting new chapter following a recent merger with one of New Zealand's largest Kiwi-owned waste management organisations.
This partnership combines nationwide recycling expertise with industry-leading waste capabilities, creating a uniquely New Zealand, future-focused, end-to-end service offering. Together, they provide practical, sustainable, Kiwi-owned solutions that retain value in local communities and support the direction Aotearoa is heading.
This merger enables a cost-effective, fully integrated service that no single operator could achieve alone.
The Role:
We are seeking an experienced Account Manager to manage a well-established portfolio of commercial customers while also driving new business development across the Bay of Plenty region.
We are looking for someone who not only nurtures long-standing relationships but actively grows them, maximising revenue, increasing share of wallet, and identifying smarter, more efficient service solutions.
While there is a large portfolio of existing clients, there is strong expectation around upselling, cross-selling, and securing targeted new business. You must be confident in your ability to prospect, build relationships, and convert opportunities and drive new business.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and grow a portfolio of commercial customers across recycling and waste management services.
- Proactively identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities.
- Build strong, long-term customer relationships through regular customer contact, and service reviews
- Conduct site visits to uncover opportunities for upselling and cross-selling customised waste and recycling solutions.
- Plan, manage, and maintain a healthy sales pipeline across all customers.
- Prepare proposals, tenders, and quotations that align with customer requirements and company capabilities.
- Work closely with operations, logistics, and customer service teams to ensure smooth service delivery and prompt issue resolution.
- Analyse customer information and waste streams to recommend improvements and cost-saving initiatives.
- Monitor customer satisfaction and take ownership of resolving escalations or service challenges.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, pipeline reporting, and sales forecasting to support business planning and performance tracking.
About You:
- Minimum 3–5 years' experience in Account Management and/or Business Development.
- Enjoys being out in the field meeting customers and building relationships face-to-face.
- Strong ability to identify growth opportunities and offer tailored solutions.
- Proven track record in securing new business, with a strategic and proactive sales approach.
- Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills.
- Understands the relationship between sales and operations
- A down-to-earth, "roll up your sleeves" attitude.
- Experience in a service-based industry (waste, couriers, logistics, etc.)
- Highly motivated to achieve targets and earn commission.
Why this role?
- Join a respected Kiwi‑owned company, with strong values and a people-first culture.
- Being able to support customers with seamless, end‑to‑end value added service.
- $80K base + Commission + Company vehicle with full personal use.
