Christchurch Central, New Zealand Fern Energy Limited Full time NZ$60,000 - NZ$90,000 per year

Christchurch | Full-time | New Role | Shape the Future of Learning at Fern Energy

About us

At Fern Energy, we're more than a fuel distribution business — we're a team of people driving progress together. Our purpose is to be New Zealand's most trusted provider of fuel solutions, meeting the evolving needs of our customers and communities, both now and in the future.

Our success is powered by our people and guided by:

  • We back each other: fostering a culture of trust, care, and shared accountability.
  • We're not what you expect: exceeding customer expectations through creativity, empathy, and genuine connections.
  • We make sense (and cents): making smart, practical decisions that create value and keep us moving forward.

These behaviours shape how we collaborate, solve problems, and celebrate success — and they're at the heart of everything we do at Fern.

The Opportunity

This is a brand-new role, created to bring our newly established Learning & Development strategy to life.

If you're someone who loves to roll up your sleeves, design meaningful learning experiences, and build capability from the ground up — this is your chance to make the role your own.

You'll play a pivotal role in developing Fern's people and performance — from implementing our learning management system to designing engaging programmes that align with our strategic goals.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role where creativity, curiosity, and practicality meet.

What You'll Do

  • Partner with leaders to identify learning needs and capability gaps across the business
  • Design, coordinate, and deliver innovative learning programmes (face-to-face, virtual, and e-learning)
  • Lead the development and rollout of our learning management system
  • Provide organisational development support across key initiatives
  • Measure learning outcomes and drive continuous improvement

What You'll Bring

  • A tertiary qualification in HR, Education, Organisational Development, or a related field
  • Experience designing and delivering learning programmes across multiple formats
  • Strong grasp of adult learning principles and evaluation methods
  • A curious, enthusiastic mindset — paired with a practical, get-things-done approach
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Strong organisational and multitasking ability
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and digital learning tools

Why Fern?

  • Competitive salary package plus great perks — including retail discounts and discounted fuel
  • A modern, open-plan workspace with free on-site parking
  • A genuinely supportive "One Team" culture
  • The opportunity to shape something new and make a visible impact

Ready to Make It Yours?

If you're excited by the idea of building something from the ground up and shaping the future of learning at Fern, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply now with your CV and a cover letter telling us why this role is the perfect next step for you.

Applicants must have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.

Successful candidates will undergo a pre-employment health assessment (including drug and alcohol screening).
