So that the foundations of ancestral lands may be solid, benefitting Māori from our past, present and future alike. This is Te Tumu Paeroa, guardian, support and advancer of the mana of Māori land everywhere.

He angitūtanga: About the Role:

We are looking for passionate Rural kaimahi to join our team in Rotorua. This includes opportunities for a Rural Coordinator and a Rural Specialist who will play a vital role in supporting the management of whenua Māori.

This role will also help supporting the identification of land use and development opportunities for whenua and ensuring high standards of service delivery. These roles are delivery-focused as opposed to enforcement, requiring strong relationship-building skills and a deep understanding of the farming and agribusiness sector.

This role requires some travel and occasional weekend work.

The main responsibilities across our rural team includes:

  • Ensuring whenua and property asset projects are compliant with current regulations and delivered to agreed standards.
  • Contributing to annual planning processes for your team and organisation-wide initiatives.
  • Working alongside Rural Specialists to develop and maintaining Asset Management Plans.
  • Ensure Māori Land Court directions are understood and effectively managed, monitored and delivered.
  • Identifying land use and development opportunities for whenua Māori.

He kōrero mōu: What we are looking for:

We're looking for people who are passionate about supporting whenua Māori and have experience or interest in the rural sector. Ideally, you will bring:

  • Experience in farming, agribusiness, or rural operations (from 1–5+ years depending on role).
  • Experience covering farm compliance actions or management, this includes farm management.
  • An understanding of local and national legislation affecting the primary sector
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office; experience with Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Dynamics NAV, SharePoint, and/or M365 is a plus.
  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand is essential.

A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience is highly valued for specialist role, while strong administration and coordination skills are key for coordinator role.

  • Pae Tahi- Te Whakahua | A desire and ability to practise correct pronunciation of Te Reo Māori (essential)
  • Pae Rua- Te Whakarongo | An ability to understand Te Reo Māori, a desire and ability to practice correct pronunciation of Te Reo Māori (desired)

Ngā Pae Mōhiotanga Tikanga Māori

  • Pae Tahi- Nō Ia Rā | An understanding and living of Tikanga Māori on a day-to-day level, for example, the removing of shoes before entering a whare, washing hands at the urupa and not sitting on tables (essential)
  • Pae Rua- Te Noho Marae | An understanding and living of Tikanga Māori on a noho marae level. Knowing and practising things such as basic karakia, waiata and one's own pepehā (desired)
