Lead a high-performing workshop. Deliver exceptional results.
With almost 40 years in the industry, Bayform has built a reputation for quality, technical skill, and genuine care for our clients across Tauranga, the Bay of Plenty, and beyond. Our customers range from walk-in clients with small jobs to large commercial and industrial companies with complex fabrication needs.
What sets us apart is our personal approach and commitment to "doing the job right, first time – every time." From concept to completion, we work alongside our clients to deliver cost-effective, practical engineering solutions grounded in craftsmanship, communication, and professionalism.
We're now looking for a highly capable Workshop Manager to lead our workshop team and continue this legacy of quality, efficiency, and technical excellence.
What you'll do:
As our Workshop Manager, you'll take ownership of the day to day running of the workshop, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standard.
You will:
- Plan and manage workflow, labour, and project schedules in a logical, time-efficient way.
- Lead, coach, and support a team of tradespeople, apprentices, and contractors — fostering a positive, engaged, high-performing culture.
- Maintain open lines of communication with clients, the management team, and internal stakeholders.
- Oversee workshop systems, quality control, job progress, and resource allocation.
- Ensure a safe, clean, and compliant workshop environment aligned with Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.
- Monitor performance, identify training needs, and support staff development.
- Manage stock levels, consumables, tools, equipment, and workshop maintenance.
Drive continuous improvement across processes, systems, and team capability.
This is a hands-on leadership role where your influence will directly shape team performance, operational efficiency, and overall client experience.
What you'll bring:
We're looking for someone who is technically strong, people-smart, and operationally sharp.
You'll bring:
- 3 - 5+ years' experience as a Workshop Manager in an engineering or metal fabrication environment.
- A relevant trade qualification and strong practical knowledge of machinery, fabrication techniques, and workshop equipment.
- Experience running scheduling systems and managing workflow in a fast-paced environment.
- Confident, fair, and consistent leadership - with the ability to motivate, coach, and grow a diverse team.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust with clients, staff, and stakeholders.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving, quality control, and continuous improvement.
- A deep understanding of Health & Safety laws and Safe Operating Procedures, and the ability to lead these in practice.
- The ability to stay calm under pressure and maintain high standards of workmanship and performance.
If you enjoy creating structure, lifting performance, and building a workshop culture people are proud to be part of - this role is for you.
What you'll get from us:
- Competitive salary
- Health Insurance
- Company vehicle
- The opportunity to lead a respected team within a stable, well-established business
- Supportive leadership, autonomy, and the chance to influence the ongoing success of the workshop
If you're ready to make a real difference with a great team doing great work, we want to hear from you
How to stand out in your application:
In your CV and cover letter, please outline:
- Your people management experience within an engineering or fabrication workshop
- Your workshop management experience, including examples of delivering high-quality outcomes for clients
- Why Bayform and this role appeal to you, and the value you believe you would bring
Eligibility:
You must be legally able to work in New Zealand permanently.
