Workshop Foreman

GH Engineering Ltd is a well-established structural steel engineering firm, delivering high-quality steel fabrication and erection services across residential, commercial, industrial and infrastructure projects in the Manawatu region. Our team is known for precision, efficiency, and a strong commitment to safety and quality.

We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Workshop Foreman to take charge and lead our fabrication team in our Palmerston North workshop, due to our current Foreman moving up within the company.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate daily operations in the steel fabrication workshop

• Allocate tasks and monitor team performance to meet production targets

• Interpret structural steel drawings, shop details, and fabrication specifications

• Ensure compliance with welding procedures, quality standards, and safety regulations

• Manage material handling, inventory, and workshop equipment

• Liaise with Project Managers and Site Supervisors to ensure smooth workflow

• Train and mentor workshop staff and apprentices

• Maintain accurate records of production, timekeeping and maintenance

• Enforce continuous improvement practices

Requirements

• Proven experience (10+ years preferred) in structural steel and supervision

• Strong understanding of fabrication processes, welding and structural steel standards

• Knowledge and understanding of SFC Certification

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and fabrication details

• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills

• Sound knowledge of workplace health and safety practices

• Basic computer skills or willingness to upskill
