The New Zealand Mines Rescue Service (NZMRS) is a NZQA-accredited PTE dedicated to saving lives through emergency preparedness, response, and specialist training for high-risk industries. They deliver nationally recognised programmes that set the benchmark for safety, professionalism, and performance.
Reporting to the CEO, you will lead NZMRS's training function, ensuring programmes are high-quality, NZQA compliant and responsive to evolving sector needs. You'll manage the training team, drive programme development and review, maintain accreditation and consent-to-assess, and contribute to strategic growth by identifying new training opportunities and expanding commercial activities.
An insight to the role
- Lead the design, delivery, and quality assurance of all NZMRS training programmes.
- Maintain NZQA Category 1 PTE compliance and accreditation, including programme approvals, moderation, and reporting.
- Identify new training, client, and partnership opportunities, and grow commercial training activities in collaboration with the CEO.
- Oversee the student management system, learner feedback, and continuous improvement of training quality and outcomes.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and professional development to a skilled training team including the Training Coordinator and Contract Trainers.
- Ensure effective engagement with key clients, levy-paying organisations, and industry stakeholders.
About you
An experienced training professional with proven leadership experience in an NZQA-accredited setting, you'll have a deep understanding of compliance and quality assurance, and the ability to influence at both an operational and strategic level. You'll also bring:
- Strong working knowledge of NZQA, programme accreditation, and quality management systems.
- A tertiary qualification in Adult Education, Training, or equivalent experience in a PTE or tertiary environment.
- Experience leading teams and developing high-performing training functions.
- Strategic and commercial awareness, with a genuine interest in identifying new opportunities to drive expansion of industry relationships and sectors.
- Recognised for your exceptional communication and relationship management skills, you have the ability to engage confidently with clients, regulators and internal teams.
- Knowledge or appreciation of emergency management, extractives, or other high-risk industries would be advantageous but not essential.
This is a rare chance to lead, shape, and make a real impact on the safety and capability of people across New Zealand's high-risk industries.
Preferred locations include West Coast, Canterbury, Waikato and Auckland regions.
