Data
Working in data at Mantel means you'll be ahead of the curve. You can align to a particular cloud platform or remain cloud agnostic, specialising in data engineering, machine learning, analytics, or data science. You'll design and scale enterprise-level, fully automated Agentic AI solutions, and speed up data platform migrations.
About the role
Senior Machine Learning Engineer
As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer with Mantel Group, you will work with other smart, passionate and skilled people to deliver high-quality AI solutions and strategic ML outcomes to our clients. You'll be a key driver in architectural decisions and the implementation of advanced machine learning systems.
Your day-to-day
- Leading AI Solution design and architectural recommendations for complex data science and AI use cases.
- Developing and deploying robust AI solutions from proof-of-values to enterprise-scale applications, ensuring scalability and performance.
- Applying and championing ML Ops/LLM Ops/Agentic Ops best practice principles to create responsible, reusable, and automated pipelines for AI development and deployment.
- Architecting and standing up cloud services to efficiently run diverse AI workloads.
- Automating and optimising repeatable routines within sophisticated ML workflows.
- Playing a leading technical advisory role as an AI consultant to clients, blending architectural vision with deep hands-on technical expertise using the latest AI/ML tools and methods.
- Supporting and significantly contributing to pre-sales activities, including high- level conversations, technical solution design, compelling presentations, and expert input to writing proposals and Statements of Work (SOWs).
- Driving thought leadership activities, including authoring blogs, delivering brown-bags, presenting whitepapers, and actively contributing to Mantel Group and the wider AI/ML community.
- Mentoring and guiding junior team members, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
What you'll need to be successful

- Ability to use professional judgement while treating colleagues and clients with respect and compassion, and a demonstrated ability to display our Mantel five principles.
- Extensive commercial AI development experience across diverse industries and organisations, demonstrating a track record of successful project delivery.
- Deep commercial experience in modern AI solution development, including designing and implementing production-grade machine learning applications.
- Proven expertise in deploying AI solutions into production with robust and repeatable ML Ops/LLM Ops practices.
- Significant consulting experience, either with external clients or internally within a large organisation, with the ability to influence and guide stakeholders.
- Exceptional modern software engineering skills: You can confidently design and implement well-structured code bases and manage the full software development lifecycle, including advanced CI/CD, TDD, monitoring, and logging strategies.
- Expert-level programming skills in at least one applicable language, such as Python, with a strong understanding of performance optimisation and best practices.
- Advanced cloud engineering skills to architect, use, and deploy complex cloud services in at least one major cloud stack (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
- A comprehensive understanding of traditional data science and modern AI concepts, including Generative AI, Agentic AI, and their practical applications.
- A strong grasp of the entire machine learning development cycle and MLOps principles, including advanced model development, deployment, data versioning, and governance.
- Demonstrable history of leading and delivering significant ML projects, or evidence of extensive self-learning and contributions to the field.
- Deep exposure to multiple ML technologies and/or frameworks such as Sagemaker, Vertex AI, Azure AI, Snowflake, Databricks / MLflow, AI API Services, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn etc., with extensive demonstrable production experience.
- Advanced ability to research, evaluate, and select the optimal tools and technologies for a broad range of complex technical problems.
- A self-starting attitude, a hands-on approach, and the ability to thrive and lead in ambiguous environments, proactively finding solutions.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills, tackling highly complex technical challenges with innovative solutions.
- A values-driven and practical approach to your work.
- A genuine passion for and deep connection to the data science and ML community, actively engaging in knowledge sharing and collaboration.
