Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

As Senior Lecturer in Sonography, you will play a pivotal role in developing, delivering, and enhancing curriculum and practical training in diagnostic ultrasound and PoCUS. You will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research innovation, and the integration of ultrasound capability into the New Zealand Graduate School of Medicine (NZGSM) and wider Division of Health programmes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and delivering research-informed lectures, workshops, and hands-on ultrasound teaching
  • Developing digital anatomy teaching incorporating ultrasound for enhanced clinical reasoning
  • Leading curriculum development related to imaging and PoCUS within medical and interprofessional programmes
  • Supervising Honours, Masters, and (where appropriate) PhD students
  • Maintaining an active research programme in medical imaging innovation, PoCUS, workforce development, or related fields
  • Contributing to interprofessional training with Nursing, Midwifery, Pharmacy and other health disciplines
  • Supporting partnerships with Pacific providers, health services, and ultrasound industry partners
  • Championing innovation, such as the use of AI-assisted tools for remote ultrasound skills development

This is a 0.5 FTE continuing, full-time role based at our Hamilton campus. Salary and benefits are competitive, and based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position. You will hold a PhD in a relevant discipline or bring equivalent scholarly/professional standing in ultrasound/sonography. You will be recognised for your excellence in teaching, including hands-on clinical instruction, and your ability to lead curriculum innovation in imaging education.

You will demonstrate:

  • Strong expertise in diagnostic ultrasound, PoCUS, and associated clinical applications
  • Experience teaching large groups, facilitating seminars, and supervising student projects
  • Proven capability in curriculum development and digital/blended teaching
  • A developing or established research profile, including publications, conference presentations, and external funding activity
  • Ability to lead PoCUS programmes from introductory to advanced levels
  • Capacity to integrate technology, AI tools, and innovative pedagogies into imaging education
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work closely with students, colleagues, clinical partners, and industry stakeholders
