Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role
As Senior Lecturer in Hauora Māori, you will provide academic leadership in teaching, research, and community engagement that reflects Te Ao Māori and advances Māori aspirations in health.
You will teach across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes within the Division of Health, including contributing to curriculum development for the New Zealand Graduate School of Medicine (NZGSM). You will also supervise postgraduate students, lead and participate in research that contributes to Māori health advancement, and strengthen partnerships with iwi, hapū, rūnanga, and Māori health providers.
This is a continuing, full-time role based at our Hamilton campus. Salary will be in the range of $ 110,392 to $ 144,817 per year based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position. Ko wai koe? – Who are you?
You will hold a PhD in Hauora Māori or a related discipline and will have a proven record of excellence in tertiary-level teaching, research, and community engagement.
You are recognised for your ability to integrate mātauranga Māori and Indigenous knowledge within teaching and research, and to collaborate effectively across disciplines and with Māori communities to drive health innovation.
You will demonstrate:
- Strong experience in teaching and mentoring at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- A record of research publications and scholarly outputs relevant to Hauora Māori.
- The ability to attract external research funding and build national and international research collaborations.
- Deep familiarity with Te Ao Māori, including tikanga, te reo Māori, and mātauranga Māori.
- A commitment to advancing Māori student success and creating culturally grounded learning environments.
You are collegial, innovative, and self-motivated, with the ability to lead by example and work effectively within diverse teams.
