We're looking for a strategic thinker and digital leader to guide the way we use online channels to connect with our audiences.
As Principal Advisor Content and Channels, you'll lead strategy and standards for the websites, social media and other digital channels managed by our group, and help shape the wider direction of the Ministry's digital presence. You'll make sure our channels reflect the Ministry's purpose and priorities, meet user needs, and follow best practice.
You'll:
- set and implement strategy for the channels we own, and contribute to Ministry-wide direction for websites and social media
- develop policies and processes that keep our content and channels accessible, accurate and easy to use
- advise senior leaders on channel strategy, governance and risk
- contribute to guidance and standards for content and channel decisions across the Ministry
- establish measurement frameworks, review analytics and feedback, and prioritise improvements
- partner with Maori to give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi in our online channels and content
- champion plain language, accessibility and the New Zealand Government Web Standards.
Salary range: $119,171 to $144,560 + 3% KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

You're an experienced digital leader who combines thought leadership with practical influence. You know how to set strategy and governance for complex digital environments, and you're confident advising senior leaders and influencing decisions.
You bring experience in:
- creating and implementing strategy for digital channels that align with organisational priorities and user needs
- leading governance, standards and policy for websites, social media and other digital touchpoints in a complex organisation
- setting SLA and measurement frameworks and using insights to drive change
- directing cross-portfolio digital programmes and complex projects to delivery
- applying service design, user experience and information architecture at scale
- providing senior advice on privacy, security, records and OIA in online contexts
- partnering with Maori to reflect Te Tiriti o Waitangi in channel decisions
- lifting capability in plain language, accessibility and Government Web Standards.
You also have:
- strong relationship-building and influencing skills
- the ability to think strategically and act decisively
- excellent writing skills and a commitment to plain language
- resilience, adaptability and a collaborative approach.
- a commitment to continuous improvement and staying up to date with trends and best practice
- the ability and willingness to uphold the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

This role is in the Content and Channels team in Te Pou Rangatopu | Corporate group.
Content and Channels ensure the Ministry's social media communities, Education Gazette publication, and Te Pou Rangatopu websites effectively meet the needs of the Ministry and our audiences. As the kaitiakitanga | guardians of these channels, we maintain their high quality by offering strategic, audience-focused advice and services.
