About Us

Capital Lodge (formerly Capital Gateway) is a locally owned and operated motel in Newlands, just minutes from Wellington City, Porirua, and Johnsonville. With 40 well-maintained units and a growing guest base, we take pride in offering clean, comfortable, and welcoming accommodations for every visitor.

We are building a team of housekeepers who enjoy working together and take pride in their work. We are now seeking a Senior Housekeeping Manager to lead this team, maintain high standards, and foster a positive and efficient work environment.


About the Role

As Senior Housekeeping Manager, you will be hands-on, working alongside the Housekeeping staff and overseeing all daily housekeeping operations. You'll lead a dedicated team to ensure guest rooms, public areas, and facilities are maintained to the highest standards and are always guest-ready.

You will work closely with the Front Office team to coordinate room readiness and guest needs, reporting directly to the Motel Manager on day-to-day operations.

This role offers 40 hours per week, with a typical roster from 7 am to 3 pm, occasionally longer depending on demand, including weekends and public holidays as required.


Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, train, and supervise the housekeeping team to deliver exceptional cleaning standards consistently
  • Conduct regular training sessions and performance reviews to uphold high-quality cleaning and presentation across guest rooms and public areas
  • Maintain strong attention to detail in all aspects of room preparation, including linen, amenities, and overall presentation
  • Manage daily and weekly staff rosters, aligning team capacity with occupancy and business needs
  • Oversee budgeting for the housekeeping department, balancing cost control with quality maintenance
  • Monitor and manage wages and labour costs to ensure alignment with budget and operational targets
  • Maintain well-stocked, organised housekeeping and supply rooms to support smooth daily operations
  • Collaborate closely with the Front Office team to ensure rooms are guest-ready and promptly respond to special requests or issues
  • Report daily operations, challenges, and team performance directly to the Motel Manager
  • Log and follow up on maintenance issues promptly to uphold room quality and guest satisfaction
  • Uphold strict health and safety standards, ensuring the safe handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing development of housekeeping staff to build a skilled, motivated team

What We're Looking For

Minimum 3 years' experience as a Housekeeping Manager in a motel, hotel, or similar accommodation environment

Experience with budgeting, rostering, stock control, and wage management

Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to inspire and develop a team

Thorough understanding of cleaning procedures, chemicals, and health and safety regulations

Excellent attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation

A positive, proactive attitude with a hands-on approach to leadership

Flexibility to work weekends and public holidays as part of a rotating roster
