Role: Technical & Compliance Lead – Solar Electrician (Registered & Apprenticeship Assessor)
Location: Christchurch, New Zealand
About the Role
This is a senior technical role responsible for compliance, commissioning, apprentice supervision, troubleshooting & complex design across national projects. The role ensures every solar PV installation meets NZ standards, is completed to the highest quality, and is backed by robust technical support.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, mentor, and assess electrical apprentices in line with EWRB and training institution requirements, including on-job competency sign-off.
- Lead commissioning and perform quality assurance inspections for all installations (residential, commercial, and off-grid).
- Lead troubleshooting of technical issues, diagnose faults, and determine skilled repair solutions.
- Manage remedial and warranty work (RMA) for Alpha ESS batteries and inverters
- Provide expert technical support to installers, apprentices, and contractors on-site and remotely as required.
- Project manage and work with Operations and Design teams to ensure a seamless handover from design to commissioning – especially with regards to commercial installation.
- Maintain compliance with NZ electrical regulations and health & safety standards.
- Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure compliance, resolve technical queries and product issues.
Qualifications & Experience
- NZ Registered Electrician (or equivalent overseas qualification eligible for NZ registration).
- Endorsement/micro-credential in Mains Parallel Generation Systems (required post-Sept 2026).
- Minimum 5 years' experience in solar PV installation, commissioning, and compliance, both residential and commercial.
- Proven ability to supervise and assess electrical apprentices (preferably already an approved industry assessor).
- Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding skills in PV systems, inverters, and battery storage.
- Experience with remedial/warranty processes and manufacturer liaison.
- Excellent communication and mentoring skills.
