About the role
We're seeking a Technical Director to join our Land Development team, based in either our Christchurch or Auckland office.
You'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful delivery of some of HG's biggest projects from concept to completion. We are set for a busy 2026 with an exciting forward workload of large-scale projects including greenfield and brownfield residential developments, infrastructure, commercial and industrial developments.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide technical Land Development advice, opinion and leadership to guide multidisciplinary teams and ensure successful delivery of complex projects from initial concept design through to construction completion.
- Oversee and review technical outputs and deliverables to ensure they meet quality, safety, and compliance standards throughout all project phases.
- Maintain existing client relationships and drive business development initiatives such as leveraging your existing network and identifying opportunities to enhance HG's future project prospects.
- Support professional development within our team of Civil Engineers and Designers through mentorship and guidance in an environment that encourages knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
- Work alongside the National Land Development Manager in the implementation of the national strategic business plan including growth strategy, business development, marketing strategies and budget targets.
- Be a recognised urban development leader internally and externally, stay up to date with industry changes or amendments and relay these changes across the business.
About you
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- CPeng status.
- years of New Zealand-based Land Development experience including civil engineering design and consenting, as well as the administration of civil construction contracts.
- Strong client relationship management and project management skills.
- The flexibility to travel within NZ as required.
- Strategic thinking, strong commercial accumen and the ability to articulate a clear vision through planning and execution.
- Successful track record managing large commercial projects and teams.
