Rural Fuel Specialist

About Us
At Fern Energy, we're more than a fuel distribution business — we're a team of people driving progress together.
Our purpose is simple: to be New Zealand's most trusted provider of fuel solutions, meeting the evolving needs of our customers and communities, now and into future.
Our success is powered by our people and guided by three core behaviours:
- We back each other: fostering a culture of trust, care, and shared accountability.
- We're not what you expect: exceeding customer expectations through creativity, empathy, and genuine connections.
- We make sense (and cents): making smart, practical decisions that create value and keep us moving forward.
These behaviours shape how we collaborate, solve problems, and celebrate success — and they're at the heart of everything we do at Fern.
The Role
We're looking for an energetic and self-motivated Rural Sales Professional to join our busy sales team. This role covers the wider Canterbury region.
You'll be out in the field most days — meeting farmers, building genuine connections, and helping them find the best fuel solutions for their operations. You'll take ownership of growing our customer base, where you can put your cold calling skills to use, whilst also nurturing strong, long-term relationships with existing clients across the rural community.
It's a hands-on, people-focused position that combines new business development with practical, on-the-ground support. You'll be part of a supportive national team, reporting to the Regional Sales Manager (South Island) and backed by Fern's strong reputation in the industry.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary package with a performance-based quarterly incentive
- Company vehicle and all tools required for the role
- Ongoing training and professional development
- Supportive team culture and a fun, down-to-earth work environment
- Great perks, including retail discounts and discounted fuel
About You
You'll thrive in this role if you're a motivated sales professional who enjoys being out in the field and connecting with rural customers. You will bring:
- Proven experience in a sales or account management role, ideally in a rural setting
- A genuine interest in the rural community and an understanding of farming systems and seasonality
- A business growth mentality – driven, proactive and results-orientated
- Confidence working independently - your company ute is your mobile office
- A high degree of comfort using technology is required including experience using a CRM system.
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills
At Fern, we take pride in what we do — and we look after our people. You'll join a genuinely supportive "One Team" culture, with room to grow and the freedom to make your mark.
Ready to Make It Yours?
If you're excited about joining a forward-thinking company and building lasting relationships across the rural community, we'd love to hear from you.
Apply now with your CV and a cover letter telling us why this role is the perfect next step for you.
Applicants must have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa. Successful candidates will undergo a pre-employment health assessment, including drug and alcohol screening.
