We're looking for a talented Legal Counsel – Insurance/Disputes to join our team, delivering specialist legal and technical advice across contentious and non-contentious matters. This is a hands-on, collaborative role for someone who thrives on resolving complex disputes, guiding brokers, and driving best practice in legal support.

  • Assess and advise on complex and escalated insurance claims, guiding brokers through internal escalation processes to resolution
  • Manage Professional Indemnity exposures and claims from receipt to outcome
  • Manage and resolve escalated complaints, ensuring satisfactory outcomes for clients and the business
  • Interpret policy wording and provide timely legal guidance on ad hoc queries
  • Ensure privacy compliance and advise on data protection matters

You'll be a key collaborator with both business and technical teams, understanding needs, translating requirements, and delivering legal solutions that support decision-making. You'll also help set us up for the future by sharing legal insights, mentoring others, and driving continuous improvement in legal processes and team development.

What you'll bring:

A law degree and current NZLS Practising Certificate, 3+ years' post-qualification experience in dispute resolution and litigation and recognised technical and legal knowledge in the insurance industry, as well as exceptional relationship and communication skills and a passion for the insurance industry.
