McMaster and Heap Veterinary Practice is a proudly independently owned, Best Practice accredited hospital, with a large and supportive team consisting of 11 veterinarians, 18 veterinary nurses, 3 receptionists and a Practice Manager. We are a busy small animal hospital offering General Practice and Referral services, including Ophthalmology, Oncology, Ultrasonography, ECG, Echocardiography, Endoscopy, Radioactive Iodine treatment and Medicine.

Our large modern practice is very well equipped and allows for great work flow. We treat and care for cats and dogs separately with a dedicated cat reception, cat consult rooms, treatment and separate cat wards. We have a large dental suite, ultrasound room, X-ray area, laboratory room with a full IDEXX suite, many surgical spaces, and a dedicated sterile surgery with attached prep room, and large cat and dog hospitalisation areas. We also house radioactive iodine cats and have a cattery attached to the practice.

Our practice is open 7 days a week, 8am-7pm weekdays, 9-3pm Saturdays and 10- 2pm Sundays.

We run Ezyvet Veterinary software and Smartflow patient monitoring via iPads.

An opportunity has arisen for a skilled and passionate veterinary nurse to join our team. The position is 3-4 days a week and 1 full weekend a month, allowing a good work-life balance for the successful candidate.  

Duties  include but are not limited to:

  • Hospital care of inpatients
  • Surgical nursing
  • Anaesthesia monitoring
  • Blood draws and placing IVs
  • Answering phones and giving advice
  • Admitting and discharging patients
  • Triaging patients for veterinarians
  • Preparing medications
  • Reception

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Have a diploma or equivalent in Veterinary Nursing and some nursing experience
  • Have a keen interest in veterinary nursing and a desire to work closely with our patients throughout their hospital stay
  • Have the ability to manage and prioritise tasks effectively
  • Exceptional verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work with confidence in a fast paced hospital environment
  • Be proactive, enthusiastic and willing to help
  • Be polite, customer focused and a great team player
  • Previous experience with Ezyvet would be desirable
