Rotorua Central, New Zealand Rotorua Lakes Council Full time NZ$45,000 - NZ$65,000 per year

Are you passionate about education, creativity, and community connection?

Te Aka Mauri Library is looking for a part time (24 hours a week) Learning Specialist to join our vibrant Community Learning Team. This role places a strong emphasis on designing and delivering engaging learning experiences for tamariki (children) and their whānau, while also supporting lifelong learning across all ages. You'll feel equally confident and competent working with early learners, school-aged children, rangatahi, and adults—ensuring that everyone in our community has access to meaningful, inclusive learning opportunities.

Reporting to the Community Learning & Promotions Lead, you'll play a key role in creating and promoting a diverse range of programmes and events that nurture curiosity, strengthen early literacy and foundational learning, and celebrate the richness of our Rotorua community.

You'll work closely with local partners—such as the Children's Health Hub, early childhood centres, kura, and other educational organisations—to design meaningful, age-appropriate learning experiences. From playful early years sessions to creative workshops and inclusive outreach initiatives, your mahi will help activate the library as a welcoming hub for imagination, discovery, and growth.

We're seeking someone with:

  • A tertiary qualification in Teaching, Early Childhood Education, Library and Information Science, or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in Te Reo Māori and confidence in kaupapa Māori settings
  • A full driver's licence
  • Experience in developing, delivering, and evaluating educational programmes
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

At Te Aka Mauri, we believe in empowering people to create value and make a positive difference in their lives and the lives of others. If you're engaging, proactive, and inspired by the idea of helping our youngest learners, their extended whānau and the wider community flourish, we'd love to hear from you.
