Dunedin Central, New Zealand Moana House Full time

He Kakahu – Peer Support Role

Moana House is a residential and community-based therapeutic community, with a strong cultural Kaupapa, situated in Dunedin designed to treat men with extensive experience in the Criminal Justice System.  As well as an open-ended residential programme, Moana House offers a Whānau Ora approach to support recovery in a whanau context and an extensive After Care programme. The Aftercare Service not only supports men to transition into the community, but also takes some referrals relating to people who have not been through the residential programme.

In this role you would be working with whaiora of our Residential Service, whilst ideally this would suit people who have lived experience similar to the tangata whaiora who use our service or have whanau lived experience we also welcome applications from those with an interest in this field.

You should have a generous endowment of common sense and communication skills, a willingness to learn, an ability to follow clear directions, good initiative, a strong work ethic, good practical work skills as we run a work programme and an interest in applying lived experience in the wellbeing of others. A capacity to understand therapeutic intent in whaiora would be useful.   Applicants must be able to set firm boundaries, take responsibility and show leadership skills.

A Level 4 Health and Wellbeing qualification or being prepared to study towards one whilst in employment is required.  Cultural competency, or at least an openness to develop it, is highly valued in all Moana House positions.

This position is for 40 hours a week.  Applicants would need to be willing and able to work rostered day, afternoon and weekend shifts.
