Wellington Central, Wellington, New Zealand Sheffield - Leaders for over 60 years. Est. 1961 Full time NZ$120,000 - NZ$180,000 per year

The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) is one of the region's largest specialist medical colleges and a recognised authority in anaesthesia, perioperative, and pain medicine.

As a bi-national organisation, we support more than 7,000 fellows and trainees across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, advancing professional standards, education, and research to improve the quality and safety of patient care.

Mō te tūnga | About the role

This position provides leadership and representation for ANZCA in New Zealand and contributes to the College's overall direction as part of the Executive Leadership Team.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Executive Director – New Zealand leads ANZCA's Wellington office, supports the New Zealand National Committees, and ensures local perspectives are reflected in the College's governance and strategic decisions.

Working closely with Executive Team colleagues based in Australia, the role requires a highly collaborative style and the ability to contribute constructively to collective leadership across both countries. It also involves leading a small, capable New Zealand team — fostering an environment that is collegial, professional, and aligned with ANZCA's values. The role combines national leadership, stakeholder engagement, and operational management, including guiding staff, managing relationships with government and regulatory bodies, and ensuring effective delivery of ANZCA's programmes in Aotearoa. Strengthening Treaty of Waitangi partnerships and promoting cultural competence remain key priorities.

Mōu | About you

You are an experienced senior leader who brings credibility, sound judgement, and a collegial approach. Your background may be in health, education, or the public sector, with experience in governance support, policy development, or professional regulation.

You bring:

– A good understanding of Aotearoa New Zealand's health system and policy environment

– Proven ability to work collaboratively within a senior leadership team across multiple jurisdictions

– Experience leading and developing people, and building a positive organisational culture

– Skill in relationship management and communication across diverse professional and cultural contexts

– Financial and operational management capability

– A steady, inclusive leadership style and the ability to represent the organisation with integrity

A relevant postgraduate qualification is expected.

This is a significant opportunity to contribute to the leadership of a respected bi-national institution and to support the continued development of anaesthesia and pain medicine in Aotearoa New Zealand.
