The Opportunity:
The Veterinary Professional Insurance Society (VPIS) is a licensed professional liability insurer and membership organisation supporting New Zealand's veterinary profession.
We have a rare opportunity for someone with leadership experience in insurance, financial services or professional membership organisations to join us as our new Chief Executive, based in Wellington.
Reporting to the Board and Chair, in this role you will provide strategic direction and operational leadership, ensure regulatory compliance, oversee insurance and membership services, and deliver value to members while maintaining the organisation's financial and operational sustainability. You will lead member engagement and communication and develop and implement policies that reflect member needs. This is a 'hands on' leadership role where you will also be comfortable 'rolling up your sleeves'.
For more information about us check our website:
What we are looking for:
An experienced Senior Executive with a background in insurance or financial services for a professional membership-based organisation, who will bring their technical knowledge and experience in insurance, business management, membership management and working with external stakeholders.
Specifically, you will:
- Provide strategic leadership working closely with the Board to develop and execute the organisation's strategic and operational plans and manage budgets, operating costs and investment performance.
- Ensure full compliance with insurance, financial services and not-for-profit regulations and provide clear and timely reporting to the Board.
- Manage professional liability products, claims handling and premium pricing and oversee relationships with reinsurers, brokers and advisors.
- Engage and develop strong relationships with key stakeholders and members to enhance and promote VPIS and you will also act as the principal spokesperson to members, regulators and stakeholders.
- Lead education initiatives to support members' risk management and professional standards.
- Oversee administration and continuous improvement of the insurance IT platform and membership systems.
- Lead, develop and support staff to deliver on VPIS's organisational goals and build a high-performance culture.
What you will bring:
Proven successful Senior Executive level experience in insurance or financial services as well as experience working with a Board of Directors. Having also worked in a professional membership organisation is highly desired.
- Strong working knowledge of New Zealand regulatory, compliance and governance requirements.
- Extensive experience in liability insurance products, claims management, premium pricing and IT platform oversight.
- Demonstrated ability to design and deliver education initiatives to support risk management and professional standards.
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills with the ability to engage members, regulators and the Board.
- Demonstrable experience in both developing and executing and implementing strategic and business plans, with a track record of delivering results, driving growth and ensuring financial sustainability, achievement of compliance requirements and efficient operations.
- A high level of financial literacy and commercial acumen and competency to ensure long-term financial sustainability.
- You will be a great people leader with a track record of building high performance teams and developing positive cultures within organisations.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills – a credible, friendly, approachable and transparent style – aligned with the values of VPIS, with the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, and with strong presentation skills and a collaborative approach.
- Integrity and a genuine commitment to the values and professional standards of the veterinary sector.
An existing understanding of/affinity with the veterinarian sector in NZ would be an advantage.
