Company Description

Founded in 2023, Manana Interactive is developing a biofeedback training game focused on teaching emotion regulation and impulse control to people struggling with dysregulation. We have been featured in national media and are currently experiencing demand both locally and internationally.

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Data Scientist (remote/Auckland) with experience in physiological signal processing to analyse heart rate variability (HRV) data and translate insights into actionable findings. The ideal candidate will combine strong analytical capability with an ability to communicate results visually and narratively for both scientific and non-technical audiences.

This is initially a flexible contract, but the ideal candidate could progress into becoming a core team member over time as the company grows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process, clean, and analyse HRV and related physiological datasets.
  • Apply time-series analysis and signal processing methods to extract key features and trends.

Implement appropriate filters (e.g., band-pass, moving average, artefact removal) to ensure signal quality.

  • Design and produce clear, insightful data visualisations and summary reports.

Present findings to the team, highlighting implications for product development, wellbeing insights, and model refinement.

  • Conduct exploratory and statistical analyses to identify relationships between HRV and behavioural or contextual variables.

Requirements

-Strong background in physiological data analysis (e.g., HRV, EEG, ECG, PPG).

-Proficiency in Python or R for signal and time-series analysis

-Experience with data filtering, artefact detection, and feature extraction from noisy biosignals.

-Competence in data visualisation

-Understanding of HRV metrics (RMSSD, LF/HF ratio, SDNN, etc.) and their physiological meaning.

-Ability to communicate technical results clearly to interdisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

  • Master's or PhD in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Data Science, Physiology, or related field.

  • Prior work with wearable sensor data or wellbeing/health analytics.

  • Familiarity with machine learning or predictive modelling using physiological signals.
