Whangarei Central, New Zealand Spectrum Foundation Full time

At Spectrum Care, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live a great life. We support adults with intellectual and/or physical disabilities to thrive, connect, and pursue their dreams — and we're looking for passionate, resilient individuals to join us.

About the Role

You'll be working in a home with three vibrant young adults who are nonverbal and exhibit challenging behaviours. They love swimming, going for walks, and dancing — so if you've got energy to match and a zest for life, you'll fit right in

This is a fixed roster position, offering consistency and routine. You'll be part of a close-knit team helping these individuals live with dignity, joy, and purpose.

Your role will be dynamic and person-centred. You'll support each individual with:

  • Community participation and social activities
  • Personal cares and daily living tasks
  • Building routines, boundaries, and meaningful relationships
  • Navigating education, work, or recreational goals

Skills & Experience

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is outgoing, familiar with the local community, and ready to get involved
  • Understands the challenges of living with a disability and meets them with empathy
  • Stays calm and helps others stay calm, even in tough moments
  • Communicates clearly and supportively with families, colleagues, and the people you support
  • Has the resilience to maintain boundaries and ensure safety
  • Willingness to assist with personal care and daily living
  • Excellent, clear, understandable verbal and written English is a pre-requisite to be considered for this role

The ideal candidate will have:

  • An interest in attaining a Community Support Worker Level 3 qualification (we'll support you)
  • Experience in disability, mental health, or behavioural support
  • A passion for people and a commitment to making a difference
  • A full NZ driver's licence
  • Ability to pass a NZ police check
  • Reliability, resilience, and a heart for service
  • The ability to use a computer effectively, including programs such as Microsoft Suite (Word, Email etc.), and Intranet.

If you are a non-resident applying for this role you must meet the following INZ Level 3 skill requirements to be considered:

  • at least 3 years of relevant work experience, or
  • a relevant qualification on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF) — this must be at least a level 4 qualification for a role at skill level 3, or a diploma for a role at skill level 2.

Why Spectrum Care?

We're proudly an equal opportunity employer that celebrates diversity and inclusion. When you join us, you're not just taking a job — you're joining a movement to empower lives and build stronger communities.
