Looking for your next opportunity in our warm and sunny corner of Aotearoa?
Whangārei District Council is on the lookout for a Planner to join our busy Resource Consents Team. As our district continues to grow, it's an exciting time to be part of the team that processes resource consent applications and helps implement the District Plan. Whether you're just starting your planning career or ready to take on more complex applications, we'd love to hear from you.
What You'll Do
- Keep resource consent applications moving and make sure they're completed within the required timeframes
- Help apply the District Plan and respond to questions about more complex development projects
- Write and review notification reports
- Lead projects and help run pre-lodgement meetings
- Take your turn on the Duty Planner roster providing planning advice to the public, consultants, and staff
What You'll Bring
Your experience will shape the specific skills you bring, but we're looking for someone who's passionate about planning, enjoys variety, and thrives on a challenge. You'll be a team player who's keen to grow and contribute to our beautiful district. Ideally, you'll also have:
- A recognised qualification in resource management planning
- Membership (or eligibility) with the NZ Planning Institute
- A good understanding of the Resource Management Act 1991 and related legislation
- Confidence to make tough but well-informed decisions
- Strong communication and analytical skills
- Experience working with a range of stakeholders and managing those relationships
- Experience preparing for hearings, and exposure to mediation or conflict resolution under the RMA
Why Join Us?
Whangārei is a district on the rise—cosmopolitan, connected, and community-focused. From stunning beaches to vibrant townships, our region offers an enviable lifestyle and a workplace that's as dynamic as the environment around us.
