Overview

NorthTec has an exciting opportunity for a technically strong, service-oriented Accountant to join our Finance team in Whangārei. Reporting to the Manager – Corporate Accounts, you will provide professional financial accounting support across NorthTec, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial operations.

This role offers variety, responsibility, and the chance to make a meaningful contribution across the organisation. You'll work with kaimahi across the Finance team and wider organisation, helping to strengthen financial capability and supporting NorthTec's ongoing financial sustainability.

This is a full-time, permanent position based at our Whangārei campus. Flexibility to travel to other sites within the region may be required.

Skills, Experience and Attributes

Essential:

• Degree-level qualification in accounting, finance, or a related field
• Demonstrated experience in financial accounting, reconciliations, and reporting
• Experience with fixed asset accounting and general ledger control
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
• Ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues
• High level of digital and systems capability

Desirable:

• Progress toward or membership of CA ANZ (or equivalent)
• Experience in the public sector or education environment
• Working knowledge of TechOne and/or Workday Adaptive
• Familiarity with Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles in a workplace context

Role Scope:

• Financial accounting and balance sheet reconciliations
• Fixed asset accounting and register management
• Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
• Contributing to annual reporting and audit processes
• Supporting budget managers to understand and use financial information effectively
• Acting as a super user of finance systems (TechOne and Workday Adaptive)
