About the Role
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will undertake a leadership role within Cancer & Blood Services, is a role model for excellence in Medical Oncology Nursing Practice, facilitates evidence-based practice and proactively contributes to improving patient outcomes. The CNS provides clinical expertise in Medical Oncology and is a clinical resource for the wider team.
Key responsibility areas include:
- Patient Case Management and Care Co-ordination
- Demonstrate clinical leadership, provide expert clinical advice, information and education, and be a clinical resource for the multi-disciplinary team
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the Oncology Unit
Cancer & Blood services is an innovative service, part of the Northern Regional service. You will be an instrumental part of service expansion, development and increasing equitable care for patients in Te Tai Tokerau. With local delivery of cancer services, projects and research, this role is extremely interesting and fulfilling. There are many opportunities for development.

About the Team/Service/Location
Five medical oncologists, one registrar, one CNS providing clinics for patients under Medical Oncology. This Medical Oncology team is due to expand with the recent increase in funding for cancer treatments. We provide SACT for those in Te Tai Tokerau for both medical oncology and Haematology. With the new Radiation oncology build due to open in 2026, there will be complete cancer care provided in Te Tai Tokerau Great news for our patients

About you
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you would have an ability to develop productive and positive relationships, lead and facilitate change and be able to educate and coach staff.
- New Zealand Registered Nurse with a current practicing certificate (APC)
- Cytotoxic registered
- Post graduate tertiary qualification (post graduate certificate/diploma).
- PDRP at Expert Level
- Minimum of 5 years recent experience in Oncology or Medical Oncology nursing
- Knowledge of Medical Oncology disorders and ability to identify variances from normal
- Management, leadership, and clinical teaching skills
