Job Description

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

This role is part of Contact's legal team, which sits within the Corporate Affairs business unit.

As Senior Legal Counsel you will provide strategically focused-legal services to all business units across Contact and advice on a wide range of legal issues. You will provide pragmatic legal advice, and be a trusted advisor, to help enable the business to achieve its goals.

We're looking for a Specialist – Senior Legal Counsel to join our Corporate Affairs team. You'll play a key part in providing pragmatic, effective legal advice across all areas of our business. This is a hands-on role where you'll work closely with a variety of people, support projects, and help shape the way we do things. 

What you'll do: 

  • Provide clear, practical legal advice to all Contact business units 
  • Negotiate, draft, and review contracts 
  • Support dispute resolution and business-as-usual activities 
  • Be an active member of project teams, offering legal insight and solutions 
  • Maintain and improve our standard contract templates and legal processes 
  • Help ensure our governance and compliance activities are robust and effective 
  • Deliver excellent customer service to stakeholders, making sure outputs are meaningful and support decision-making 
Qualifications

You'll be someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, brings a pragmatic and can-do attitude, and enjoys working with a wide range of people and topics. You're organised, adaptable, and comfortable managing your own workload. Most importantly, you're committed to delivering excellent service and making a real impact through your work. 

What you'll bring: 

  • LLB degree and a current practising certificate 
  • 8 years' relevant legal experience 
  • Knowledge of, or interest in, the energy sector 
  • Strong client-service ethic and practical problem-solving skills
