About the role

Our client has a rare opportunity for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join their high performing team. Based in their Auckland Head Office, with flexibility to WFH, this role offers exceptional exposure to strategic legal work, corporate governance, and cross-functional collaboration across New Zealand and Australia.

As Senior Legal Counsel, you will play a key role supporting senior legal leadership and guiding the business through a wide range of commercial, corporate, compliance, and regulatory matters. You'll provide strategic legal advice, draft and negotiate commercial agreements, oversee disputes, support corporate governance and reporting requirements, and lead the organisation through licensing, compliance, legislative interpretation, and interactions with regulatory bodies across both New Zealand and Australia.

What we're looking for

  • A lawyer with at least 5 years' top quality PQE who holds or is entitled to hold a current NZ legal practising certificate, with a background in commercial / corporate law preferred
  • Experience in roles requiring strategic thinking, negotiation skills and problem solving with the ability to manage complex issues
  • Experience in NZX and/or ASX listing rules highly advantageous but not essential
  • Demonstrated experience in relationship-building and successful management of multiple-stakeholders
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Advanced contract drafting skills, with attention to detail
