We're looking for a motivated individual who can connect with our students and provide culturally responsive guidance, advocacy, and practical support throughout their studies. This role is ideal for someone positive, service-focused, and capable—someone who knows how to access the right support and build strong relationships that help students succeed. As part of our Te Ara Oranga team, you'll play a key role in increasing retention and supporting Māori and Pasifika learners to graduate and enter the health workforce.

This full-time, fixed-term position is part of the Te Ara Oranga project at Manukau Institute of Technology. You will:

  • Support learners from enrolment through to graduation and transition into health careers.
  • Provide pastoral care and advice that contributes to student retention and success.
  • Ensure learning environments are accessible and culturally responsive to both academic and wellbeing needs.
  • Liaise with internal and external services to empower and enable student success.
  • Help deliver Te Ara Oranga events and workshops that enhance student engagement.
  • Build strong relationships with schools and communities, maintain student outcome data, and assist with promoting Te Ara Oranga through social media.
  • Work collaboratively with Ngā Kete Wānanga Marae and the Pasifika Development Office for cultural guidance and advice when supporting students, alongside Te Ara Oranga's Hauora Navigator.

We are seeking someone who brings:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or significant experience in pastoral care, youth/community leadership, or student support.
  • Experience working with diverse communities/
  • Strong collaboration, networking, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Cultural competence and confidence in Te Ao Māori and/or Pasifika world views
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to use student management systems. (advantageous)
  • A full driver's license.
  • Passion for raising achievement and supporting Māori and Pasifika student success.
