About REAL | Mō mātou
Our spirit is 'loving life' – and that's what we do- we work with our taiohi to realise this aspiration. We provide health and wellbeing services working with local community support to help taiohi aged 12 to 24 develop life skills and build strong connections, including their school, employer, whānau, and friends.
Whetū Marewa means 'rising star' and is our access and choice programme for young people. This service aims to build confidence, resilience and wellbeing in taiohi who may be living with mild to moderate mental health, or challenges from alcohol or other drug usage, or social stressors.
Whetū Marewa is community based, which means we can come to you, or host you at our base, providing support from clinicians and youth workers.

The role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi
In this role you will be working alongside a passionate and dynamic team of youth workers and a Team Coach.
Our service provides assessment, therapy and support to young people and their whānau. It is a brief and early intervention service based in the community. You will align with our tikanga (principles) and kawa (practice) and support the clinical components of Whetū Marewa - Primary Mental Health. We provide both individual and group therapy and support sessions from our office, local schools or out in the community.
This is a full-time role based in New Plymouth. You will be working Monday – Friday, 8am – 4:30pm.
You | Mōu
We are interested to hear from candidates who are registered health professionals (Occupational Therapist, Registered Counsellor or Social Worker) and proven experience working with young people.
Our preferred candidates will have:
- A current registration with professional body (OTBNZ or ANZASW)
- 5+ years of experience working in mental health (preferred)
- An understanding of local community issues and of tikanga Māori.
- Ability to develop and maintain internal and external key relationships.
- Uphold the integrity and mana of both the taiohi and kaupapa.
- The ability to work independently and innovatively to engage young people/taiohi and whānau.
- An inspiring and enthusiastic outlook on life.
You will also have:
- Full New Zealand driver's license
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Knowledge of, and demonstrable commitment to the principles of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi
