We're looking for a site-experienced senior architect who is ready to steer complex commercial and civic projects while also contributing to the direction and culture of an established Auckland studio. This role suits someone who enjoys shifting between design leadership, technical problem-solving, and on-the-ground coordination.

You'll hit the ground on-site during construction phase of a major project but generally guide projects through detailed design and into construction. 

Responsibilities

  • Take charge of large-scale architectural commissions, setting direction and ensuring strong delivery from concept to completion
  • Act as a key point of coordination during construction, handling questions from the site team and keeping documentation accurate and up to date
  • Shape digital workflows by overseeing the structure and integrity of project models and ensuring information flows smoothly across disciplines
  • Evaluate technical content, including drawings, product information, and construction proposals
  • Visit site regularly to assess progress, identify issues early, and record findings clearly
  • Build productive working relationships with clients, consultants, and contractors to keep momentum and resolve challenges collaboratively
  • Play an active role within the studio's leadership—supporting training, contributing to process improvements, and helping set expectations for quality

Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years' NZ experience
  • Substantial experience overseeing sizeable commercial, public, or infrastructure projects
  • Experience leading on site during construction phases
  • Confidence navigating construction environments and New Zealand's regulatory landscape
  • Strong ability working within Revit-based project environments; familiarity with other digital tools is an advantage
  • A track record of supporting or guiding other architects or technicians
  • Excellent communication skills and ease dealing with a wide range of project stakeholders
  • An understanding of common NZ contract frameworks and how they apply throughout delivery
