**About the opportunity | Ko te āheinga**:
We are looking for an Environmental Education Community Facilitator to join the Enviroschools team, based in Central Hawke’s Bay. This is a contract position, working approximately 12 - 15 hours per week during school term time. This varied, interesting and diverse role would give you the opportunity to bring your passion for learning and education and play a pivotal role in a proven sustainability kaupapa.
Enviroschools is an innovative and holistic programme that is well-established in Hawke’s Bay. This Community Facilitator role collaborates primarily with schools in the Enviroschools Central Hawke’s Bay network.
This role guides, motivates and advises schools on their journey to creating a sustainable, resilient, and thriving school community. As part of the journey tamariki/students connect with and explore the environment, then plan, design, and take-action in their local places in collaboration with their communities. Enviroschools Facilitators support teachers, wider school staff and students with environmental learning and action.
This position will also provide Hawke’s Bay Regional Council education resources and activities to all schools in Central Hawke’s Bay in a proactive manner.
This role is remunerated with an hourly rate, travel allowance and mileage allowance. This is a self-employed contractor position and as such you are responsible for your own income tax responsibilities.About you | E pā ana ki a koe:
You will ideally have a teaching qualification and a familiarity with school systems including knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum and be able to offer practical support to schools on their sustainability journey. You will have a natural and inclusive style of working that brings people together and is empowering, including the ability to make connections and build relationships in the local community.

- An interest in bringing environmental change to communities
- Previous experience in a similar role
- An appreciation of Te Ao Māori and the contribution Māori perspectives and wisdoms bring to sustainability along with good te reo Māori pronunciation.
- Be self-motivated and comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider team.
- Excellent organisational skills, including event management, administration, computer, and written skills.
- A creative thinker and a reflective role model, learning and assessing their own practice and open to possibilities.
- A reliable vehicle with full insurance and a current Class 1 driver’s license
You may be required to work outside normal hours of work on occasion and the flexibility to work away from home occasionally is required.
This role requires Police screening under the Vulnerable Children Act. All applicants must have existing rights to work in New Zealand.
