**Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role**

The Economic Strategy Directorate leads the Treasury's advice and thinking on what matters most for medium-term economic performance. The Directorate also works with the broader public sector system to deliver on the priorities of the Government. The Directorate collaborates across Treasury to provide compelling advice on economic priorities for the medium-to-long term, ensuring this is well integrated with our fiscal and macroeconomic advice

Current priorities for the Directorate are:

- Developing advice on the mix of economic and regulatory interventions required to support the Government's Going for Growth plan
- Understanding the key drivers of New Zealand's economic performance over the medium to long term, given global trends such as the ageing population, geopolitical volatility, climate change and technological developments.
- Providing strategic advice and coordination of cross-government work on economic security and the role of the Māori economy in lifting New Zealand's economic performance.

In this role, you will report directly to the Director, Economic Strategy and be a key part of the Directorate's leadership team. You will provide leadership and support delivery of the most complex aspects of the Directorate's work programme and provide coaching and mentoring support to help build the teams' capability.

- Capability as a strategic thinker, including anticipating the needs of Ministers and ensuring the Directorate delivers highly quality, timely and influential advice
- A strong focus on impact and delivery, including working through others and keeping people motivated and focussed on the important, not just the urgent
- Comfort working at pace (when required) and dealing with ambiguity
- Exceptional relationship and interpersonal skills and the credibility to engage with and influence senior decision makers, including the ability to represent the Treasury in senior forums
- A genuine commitment to inclusion and diversity and lifting our Māori policy capability
- An economics background is strongly preferred, either academic or with significant demonstrated experience as an economic policy advisor.
