The Transport Services Group is responsible for the policy, planning, design, delivery and maintenance of transport system operations and improvements. With a focus on developing an integrated multimodal transport system, Transport Services works alongside local and central government partners to ensure optimal investment that delivers the best long-term transport outcomes The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi Our Principal Commercial Leads are essential for championing the development of Waka Kotahi's commercial acumen capability across our Transport Services project delivery streams. Working alongside the Programme and Project teams, you'll be leading initiatives, conducting project reviews from inception through to implementation, assisting with negotiations, dispute resolutions, confirming all contracts are being managed within the set financial parameters, as well as mentoring and coaching the Commercial Advisors and others involved with project commercial management. You'll also provide leadership with risk management and contractual acumen and provide opportunity for the project managers to better understand the project risks, contractual challenges and opportunities and the required mitigations. Ultimately this will deliver improvements to the project delivery business model, building collaborative relationships and work practices with an array of stakeholders, both internal and external. About you | Ko wai koe As our Principal Commercial Lead, you'll possess a high level of commercial acumen coupled with a proven ability to lead high level strategic, analytical, and conceptual thinking, ideally be from a consulting or construction background. With exceptional communication skills, you are a capable negotiator and influencer with the ability to present compelling reports and recommendations for a variety of audiences. In addition, you will bring:
- Extensive commercial/contractual experience within the industry and sector relevant to the programme assigned
- Good knowledge of procurement systems and supply chain processes to deliver infrastructure effectively and efficiently
- Ability to review and assess cost estimates
- Sound knowledge in understanding project scheduling and programme
- Sound knowledge and understanding of risk identification, analysis, and quantification
- Proven experience in contract negotiation and dispute resolution
- High volume contract management environment and working with NZ3910 and Alliance contracts, or the international equivalent.
- The ability to analyse offers from contractors and suppliers and assess tags
- An awareness of price trends and appreciation of data confidentiality
- Experience working within a programme environment in a large complex organisation, ideally in a commercial context
