Standards New Zealand is the national Standards body in New Zealand and a business unit within Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment. The intellectual property (IP), particularly copyright, in standards is an extremely important and valuable asset to Standards New Zealand. Our approach to copyright and licensing is to protect the integrity of the standard information and also enable access. We are exploring innovative ways to license content and consider how our IP can work for us and we have a number of exciting ventures under way where we have opportunities to commercialise our IP.
**About the role**:
The Senior Advisor Copyright and Licensing will have and promote a high regard to the value and legitimate use of standards with the intention of protecting and promoting standards and standards products. You will be responsible for managing copyright enquiries and working effectively with the wider team on new product development and managing any IP risks. This involves looking for innovative ways to license content and think about how IP can work for us to enable access to standards.

Ngā pukenga me ngā wheako e hiahiatia ana - Skills and experience required:
- Facilitating and managing enquiries for access to the intellectual property held by the New Zealand Crown in New Zealand Standards and in standards developed by other standards organisations with which New Zealand has a copyright agreement
- Operate within the framework provided by Copyright Act 1994, as amended by the Standards and Accreditation Act 2015, and other government policies in relation to access to intellectual property.
- Process and respond to requests for advice and information on copyright and licensing, calculating license fees when required.
- Licensing third parties to copy or use the standards documents in whole or in part under copyright licence agreements
- Updating and amending existing licensing agreements as required
- Supporting copyright agreements with the other national and international standards bodies.
- Understand the terms and conditions of use of all international contracts and regularly educate the Standards New Zealand team to enable them to perform their roles effectively.
- Assist with commercial contract preparation and reviews.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
**Ideally, you will have a range of skills that will include**:
- Demonstrated expertise and experience in handling matters relating to intellectual property, Crown copyright, monitoring compliance and dealing with non-compliance, including by prosecution
- Demonstrated competence at working with Microsoft suite and managing enquiries in a timely manner
- Strong copy writing and editing skills, and ability to focus on key details
- Ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple projects efficiently and to prioritise competing commitments.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly assimilate new information and areas of work
- Good communication skills
- able to share knowledge clearly and work well in a team environment
- Preferably a law degree with a component of intellectual property law, or a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline would be considered Ētahi kōrero mō MBIE - About MBIE:
