A newly created opportunity has arisen within the Market Integrity branch of Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery group of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, as a Principal Advisor - Māori Strategy.

The Principal Advisor will be a trusted advisor to the General Manager and the wider leadership team of Market Integrity.

This role will support colleagues across Market Integrity in successfully delivering priority work, with a particular focus on genuine partnership with Māori to ensure that Market Integrity is well positioned to deliver partnership responsibilities with Māori under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

This role will require significant expertise and perspective in regard to Iwi and Māori related matters and will be able to build and maintain partnerships with external stakeholder groups, as well as in business, Iwi and other key Māori organisations and support the General Manager and wider leadership team in developing and maintaining relationships with Māori, Māori organisations and Iwi.

This is a highly collaborative and influential role that will need to actively build and maintain relationships with the Market Integrity leadership team and their teams.

- Expert understanding of Crown responsibilities under Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the aspirations and needs of Māori
- Demonstrated experience of advancing both Crown aspirations and the aspirations of Māori under Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Confident with Te Reo Māori me on tikanga - take part in general conversation with speakers of Te Reo Maori, be comfortable in marae and/or other Te Ao Maori environments
- Proven experience working in a policy and/or service delivery agency where partnership with Māori communities, Iwi, Hapu and key Māori organisations are prioritised
- An ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with a wide range of people at all levels, both internal and external to MBIE
- A proven track record of experience and achievement in working with leadership teams and providing high level strategic advice in a complex environment
- Strong systems thinking skills, able to quickly develop an understanding of context in relation to the insights required and provide strategic advice
- A strategic thinker, politically aware, able to operate as a credible and trusted strategic advisor to the Market Integrity leadership team
- Able to successfully establish and maintain relationships with high-level stakeholders inside and outside government
