**The role**:
This role has come about as we resource up to deliver the Orion Group strategy. It will provide key capability in the transformation of our network to enable a low carbon economy and greater energy choice for our community.
Reporting to the Programme Director - Network Transformation the role will bring together and build a Power Systems team focused on the provision of analysis to enable informed network decisions as we deliver on our Network Transformation Roadmap and insights that support our customers on their energy journey. It will be a small, tight knit team so your ability to undertake analysis and lead from the front will help define your success.
**A little more about the role**:
- Provide power system dynamic modelling and engineering to support the stable long-term through to near real-time operation of the power system, including integrating new distributed energy resource technologies;
- Identify power quality issues, monitor activity and loss optimisation and potential system security exceptions;
- Build and lead a team of technical experts to ensure we have the capability to deliver on our Network Transformation Roadmap.
**A little more about you**:
- Strong personal leadership and the ability to establish a strong, motivated team
- Excellent communication skills and able to convey complex engineering information in a range of simplified forms which supports understanding to a variety of audiences
- Relevant tertiary degree (e.g., B.E.) or equivalent experience and solid experience (in the order of 9 years, but open to considering less for the right mix of skills and ability)
- Understanding of power system modelling and spatial / temporal analysis (including transients and power quality) with experience in either transmission or distribution power systems
- Expert user of power system simulation computer programmes or real time simulation technologies
- Understanding of the NZ regulatory environment at it applies to the electricity industry would be an advantage and specifically the Electricity Industry Participation Code
