Due to an internal promotion, we are currently recruiting for a Senior Legal Counsel to join our talented, award winning in-house legal team. In this role, you will work closely with stakeholders across the business providing advice on a wide range of legal matters and queries.
About the role:
- Providing prompt, pragmatic and comprehensive legal advice to the AIA NZ business across all matters- Reviewing, negotiating, drafting and finalising contracts and other commercial arrangements to minimise risk and safeguard the organisation’s interests- Managing and advising on contentious matters involving the organisation- Building expert knowledge in key industry issues e.g. adviser regulation, prudential regulation, industry codes- Developing and promoting AIA NZ’s positions on key issues in the wider industry- Representing AIA NZ at key industry forums e.g. FSC
About you:
- Have practical knowledge and understanding of the New Zealand legal and regulatory environment as well as aspects of key international legislation impacting on business activities and financial services operations in particular- Have a Law degree and hold a New Zealand practising certificate- Ideally you will have at least 8 years post-qualification experience, which includes private practice or in-house experience of/in the financial services or insurance industry- Experience of working in a multi-national business with a particular focus on the Asia-Pacific region- A confident communicator who is able to influence outcomes and build strong relationships- Excellent interpretive and analytical skills to understand and assess the impact on the business, and practical implications and requirements of legal and regulatory requirements- Highly developed commercial judgment and acumen- The ability to manage legal risks holistically while driving business results and solutions- Integrity with the courage to challenge when necessary
In addition to the above, you will have excellent interpretive and analytical skills in order to understand and assess the impact on the business as well as highly developed commercial judgment and acumen.
